This page explains which cookies Boiler Decoder uses, what they are for and how you can control them. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers personal data more generally.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as local storage, work in much the same way. Some are needed for a site to work, and others are used for things like advertising. Under UK law, a site must ask for your consent before it uses cookies that are not strictly necessary.
Cookies we set ourselves
Ordinary visitors get no cookies from us. Our visitor statistics are counted without cookies and store nothing on your device, as described in the privacy policy.
The only cookies our own system sets are for the person who runs the site, when they sign in to the private dashboard:
| Cookie | Purpose | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| bcg_admin | Keeps the site owner signed in to the dashboard. Strictly necessary. | Until the browser is closed |
| bcg_remember | Set only if the site owner ticks "Keep me signed in". Strictly necessary for that choice. | Up to 30 days |
You will never receive either of these unless you sign in to the dashboard, which only the site owner can do.
Advertising cookies from Google
The site is free because it shows advertising from Google AdSense. When ads are shown, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure how ads perform and, with your consent, show ads based on your interests.
If you visit from the UK, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, a consent message from Google, a certified consent management platform, asks for your choice before personalised advertising is used. You can accept, reject or pick individual purposes. If you reject, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised using your browsing history.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy and cookie settings link that the consent message adds to the page. You can also manage personalised ads in Google's ad settings, and read how Google uses information from sites that show its ads at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Links to other websites
Some pages link to manufacturers, official safety bodies and other sites, for example the manufacturer documents named in each page's Sources section. Those sites set their own cookies under their own policies once you visit them.
How to block or delete cookies
Every modern browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy or Security. Blocking cookies will not stop you using this site. If you block advertising cookies you may still see ads, but they will not be personalised.
Changes to this policy
If we add a service that uses cookies, we will list it on this page before it is switched on. Questions about cookies can go to support@boilerdecoder.co.uk.
